No official Talk to Me 2 release date has been announced. On 8 August 2023, A24 confirmed the film will have a sequel. A24 announced the sequel on their social media, showing the Hand contorting into a "2" and revealing the title Talk 2 Me.
It turns out there are not one but two scripts for the sequel, each following a different storyline and character — and the Philippou brothers cannot decide which to tackle. Danny Philippou told IndieWire of Talk to Me 2's current status:
"A part of it is, I can't decide which is the best avenue to take,"
Danny Philippou co-wrote both scripts alongside screenwriter Bill Hinzman, who collaborated with the brothers on Talk to Me and Bring Her Back. Producers Kristina Ceyton and Samantha Jennings are also returning to the creative team. No cast members have been announced yet.
When will Talk to Me 2 come out?
The most candid timeline came directly from Michael Philippou. Speaking to IndieWire, Michael Philippou laid out the schedule: "I'd say 2025 Bring Her Back, 2026 the documentary, 2027 [the new] horror, and then Talk to Me 2."
That puts the earliest realistic window for a Talk to Me 2 release date somewhere around 2028 or later — assuming no further delays. The directors currently have two different ideas in development for the sequel, and cannot decide which direction to go with it.
Almost two years after it was first announced, Danny and Michael Philippou provided an update on the "insane" sequel. Danny also suggested they will make one more original horror before pivoting back to Talk to Me.
Danny teased: "I'm writing another horror movie at the moment, which I adore so much... And then [it] would be Talk to Me 2."
Is there a Talk to Me 2 trailer?
There is no official trailer for Talk 2 Me. The Talk to Me sequel has not yet set a release date. Given the film has not entered production, a trailer is still far off. The Philippou brothers' immediate priority has been Bring Her Back and their upcoming documentary project.
Danny told The Hollywood Reporter, "While writing the first film, you can't help but write scenes for a second film. So there are so many scenes." That enthusiasm makes the wait all the more frustrating for fans.
While the feature film sequel remains in limbo, the Talk to Me universe is moving forward in a very unexpected direction. A24's Talk to Me is getting an episodic spinoff designed for Meta VR headsets, created by Danny and Michael Philippou as a six-part sequel series.
Meta and XRTV have teamed up for a currently untitled series consisting of six half-hour episodes, set to follow "a group of young travellers chasing the ultimate party on a European island until they discover the Hand, a supernatural high deadlier than any drug."
The Philippous will not be directing any episodes — all six will be written by Trent Atherton, who created the series with Darren Brandl, and directed by Craig William Macneill.
As of February 2026, production is now underway on the series. It will not appear on streamers or television — the show is being created exclusively for Meta's immersive VR devices.
A feature sequel to Talk to Me is still confirmed to be in development. The Meta series is a separate, additional project — not a replacement for Talk 2 Me.
Where to watch Talk to Me right now
Searching for where to stream the original? Talk to Me left Hoopla on 26 March 2025 and landed on Netflix on 28 March 2025. Talk to Me is available to stream on Netflix and Paramount+ with Showtime.
The film was removed from Netflix USA on 1 October 2025. It remains available on Netflix Australia and Netflix Canada. Fans in the US can rent or purchase it digitally through Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home.
Why is Talk to Me 2 taking so long?
Several factors are at play:
- There are not one but two scripts for the sequel, each following a different storyline and character.
- The brothers are also working on a documentary and a new horror film whose details have not yet been released, so they have a great deal on their plates.
- The Philippous are prioritising each project in sequence before returning to the Talk to Me world.
The ending of Talk to Me explained
Understanding the first film's finale is essential context for the sequel. Mia begins to be haunted by an entity that takes on the shape of her mother and convinces her to kill Riley. Before she can take his life, Mia realises she is being tricked by the ghosts and sacrifices herself — only to become a lost spirit. Riley, however, is saved.
The film leaves the question "Does Mia die?" in everyone's mind. The answer is yes — Mia dies after being hit by a car, and she becomes a lost spirit who answers to a stranger holding the Hand.
The end of Talk to Me sees the embalmed Hand wind up with a new group of party-goers, so a sequel following a new group of victims is an obvious route. An interesting new angle could explore more from the spirit side, now that audiences have a touch point in Mia. Seeing Sophie Wilde transform into a malevolent spirit could offer a unique perspective.
At the end of the film, Mia is about to sacrifice Riley by pushing his wheelchair into oncoming traffic. But in an ambiguous shot, audiences instead witness Mia crashing into oncoming cars and dying on the pavement. It remains unclear if Jade pushed Mia, or the girl took her own life as an offering to the spirits in exchange for Riley's survival.
