Newcastle United have been handed a potential concern over Matias Fernandez-Pardo after the forward was reportedly absent from training following a recent illness, leaving questions over his availability for the club’s upcoming fixture.
The Belgian attacker, who arrived at St James’ Park from Lille in a reported €60 million deal, has been attracting attention as Newcastle continue to develop their attacking options under head coach Matthias Jaissle. However, his absence from training has raised uncertainty over whether he will be available for selection.
At this stage, there is no confirmed indication that Fernandez-Pardo is dealing with a serious injury. Instead, the reported illness appears to be the immediate concern, although the full extent of the situation and its impact on his preparations remain unclear.
For Newcastle, the priority will be ensuring the forward has recovered sufficiently before making any decision regarding his involvement.
Fernandez-Pardo’s Availability In Question
Missing a training session does not automatically mean a player will be unavailable for a match, particularly when illness is involved. Recovery times can vary, and players may return to the training ground once they are feeling better and able to resume their normal workload.
Nevertheless, the timing of Fernandez-Pardo’s absence could prove significant if Newcastle are preparing for an important Premier League encounter.
Jaissle’s approach places considerable emphasis on intensity, aggressive pressing and quick transitions. Those demands require players to be physically prepared, making it important that any returning player is fully recovered before being considered for selection.
If Fernandez-Pardo has been struggling with illness over recent days, Newcastle’s medical staff will need to assess his condition before determining whether he can participate in full training.
The club will also be keen to avoid rushing him back prematurely, particularly if there is any risk that doing so could prolong his recovery.
An Important Player For Newcastle’s Attacking Plans
Fernandez-Pardo’s arrival from Lille was viewed as a significant investment in Newcastle’s attacking future. His technical ability, movement and versatility offer the potential to provide Jaissle with additional options across the forward line.
The Belgian youngster’s ability to operate in different attacking positions could prove particularly valuable as Newcastle look to establish greater consistency in their performances.
Competition for places remains important, and any absence could provide an opportunity for another member of the squad to step into the starting line-up or make an impression from the bench.
However, Newcastle will naturally hope Fernandez-Pardo is available as soon as possible, especially if he has been building momentum in training and working towards a more prominent role within the team.
With a demanding schedule requiring careful management of the squad, maintaining the availability of attacking players will be an important consideration for Jaissle and his coaching staff.
Newcastle Await Further Clarity
For now, uncertainty remains over Fernandez-Pardo’s immediate availability following his reported illness and absence from training.
A return to the training ground would provide an encouraging indication that the forward is recovering, although his fitness would still need to be assessed before any decision is made about matchday involvement.
Supporters will be hoping the situation proves to be a short-term issue rather than something that keeps the attacker sidelined for an extended period.
Until further information becomes available from Newcastle United or the head coach, it would be premature to conclude that Fernandez-Pardo will definitely miss the next fixture.
The key question is whether he can recover in time to rejoin the squad and be considered for selection.
Newcastle will be hoping for positive news on Fernandez-Pardo’s condition, with his availability potentially providing Jaissle with another valuable attacking option in the coming days.
