The Korea Automotive Technology Institute is launching technology cooperation with Italy's national wireless communications research lab, CNIT-WiLab, in the field of future mobility.
The institute said on Oct. 12 that it signed a memorandum of understanding with CNIT-WiLab in Bologna, Italy, on Oct. 9 for research cooperation on future mobility based on advanced wireless communications. Jin Jong-wook, president of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, and Andrea Conti, director of WiLab, attended the signing ceremony.
WiLab is a wireless communications research lab under CNIT, a non-profit university consortium established by Italian national universities in 1995. It conducts theoretical and experimental research on wireless communications as well as industry-academia research and development, and focuses on next-generation technologies including sixth-generation communications, or 6G, vehicular communications, the Internet of Things and large-scale wireless networks, drawing on its capabilities in theory, industrial application and field validation.
The two organizations plan to expand joint research and technology exchanges in advanced wireless communications-based future mobility and connected-car technology on the back of the agreement. Key areas of cooperation include future mobility and connected-car technology, as well as joint research and exchanges on next-generation wireless communications technology for connected-car and mobility applications.
In particular, the two sides will jointly pursue research and development on applying next-generation wireless communications technologies such as 6G, vehicular communications, IoT and large-scale wireless networks to future mobility, and will identify joint international R&D projects.
"Next-generation wireless communications technology is a core technology that improves the connectivity and safety of future mobility," Jin said. "Through cooperation with WiLab, we will strengthen the technological competitiveness of the future mobility and connected-car industries, and actively identify joint international projects to expand technology cooperation between Korea and Italy."
