Spirit of NI Awards: Conor McIlvenny wins Spirit of Sport Award
Conor McIlvenny has been named winner of the Spirit of Sport Award, sponsored by Harvey Norman.
The Spirit of Sport Award recognises someone who has used their sporting talents to make a positive contribution to their local community. It has been presented by champion boxer Ryan Burnett and all-round sporting legend Gerry Armstrong, alongside Paul Chapman, general manager, Bedding UK.
Getting active and speaking out can save a life. That’s the mantra of Belfast marathon runner and gym coach Conor McIlvenny. For Conor, one marathon wasn’t enough. He took on the gruelling challenge of running seven marathons in as many days, all in the name of mental health.
Having overcome his own struggles with depression, Conor was determined to raise money for the charity that had helped to turn his life around. He completed his 183-mile challenge by crossing the finish line of the Belfast City Marathon, having raised an incredible £50,000 for the community mental health charity West Wellbeing.
His message for those suffering is simple: “Talk more and move more.”
