Sammie Heavens is not slowing down anytime soon. The South African rapper stopped by YFM's Johannesburg studios on Thursday, 15 October 2026, for a lively chat that gave fans a proper look at what she's been cooking up — and the timeline is tighter than many expected.
Sitting across from the host in the branded studio, Heavens opened up about her creative process, her psychology degree, and most importantly, her upcoming music plans. She confirmed that her debut EP is set to land in February 2027, marking a major milestone after years of releasing singles independently.
Sammie Heavens' road to the EP
Before the EP arrives, though, Heavens hinted that she is not done for 2026. She told YFM she is considering putting out two more songs before the year wraps up, both of which will be separate from the EP project.
"I'm thinking of dropping two more songs for this year unrelated to the EP and then the EP next year," she said, adding that her goal is to "just trust my talent and show the people."
She also reflected on how long she kept her artistry private, noting that despite writing poetry from a young age, she was not always comfortable sharing her work with others.
The conversation touched on her latest single, "Tell Dat to the Opps," which dropped on 9 October 2026 and features her partner, Nasty C. During the speed round segment of the interview, the dynamic between the two was playfully referenced when the host noted Nasty C is "not her celebrity crush" — prompting laughs all round.
The Nasty C Collaboration and What It Taught Her
The "Tell Dat to the Opps" collaboration is not the first time the two have worked together. Nasty C previously featured Heavens on "The Heart," which appeared on the deluxe edition of his FREE project back in March 2026.
Heavens said the latest collaboration pushed her out of her head. "I don't have to overthink," she admitted, explaining that working on trap material taught her to simply say what feels right without second-guessing.
Her degree in psychology, she added, is a double-edged sword — while it helps her understand people and sharpen her writing, it also makes her hyper-aware of how others might receive her work.
