‘We had to dig deep’ Madueke admits it was really tough to win at Forest

১৯/১০/২০২৬

Noni Madueke made the difference for Arsenal as his deflected effort helped the Gunners secure a hard fought victory over Nottingham Forest in a difficult Premier League match. The result earned Arsenal three important points as they continue their battle for the title against Manchester City.

Arsenal know they cannot afford to fall six points behind City, who have started the campaign in impressive fashion. The Manchester club have performed better than many expected and could maintain their winning run, leaving the Gunners under pressure to keep pace with their rivals.

Madueke delivers at the City Ground

The City Ground is a difficult venue for visiting teams, with Nottingham Forest having a reputation for making life uncomfortable for their opponents. Arsenal were well aware of the challenge before kick-off, particularly after failing to score on their previous two visits to Forest.

That record offered a warning of what could happen, and the match proved challenging for Mikel Arteta’s side. Forest made the contest difficult, using direct play and aerial balls to disrupt Arsenal and prevent them from finding their rhythm.

However, the Gunners continued to search for a breakthrough and eventually found one through Madueke. His deflected shot provided the decisive moment, allowing Arsenal to leave Nottingham with all three points and avoid dropping valuable ground in the title race.

Madueke reflects on a difficult victory

The win was particularly important given the pressure created by City’s strong start to the season. Arsenal understand that they must keep collecting points if they want to remain close to the top of the table, even when their performances are not at their best.

Madueke acknowledged the difficulty of the encounter after the final whistle. Speaking via Goal, he said:

‘We had to dig deep, we know it’s difficult to come here. A lot of balls in the air and a lot of direct play. Thank God we were able to get the win and we move on with three points.’

With City continuing to set a demanding pace, Arsenal will be pleased to have secured the victory. Madueke’s contribution ensured they left a difficult ground with the points they needed to maintain their title challenge.
