Canadian families who are eligible can look forward to another round of government benefits scheduled to be paid next week.
These benefits are meant to help families manage the costs of raising children. The next Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment is scheduled to be paid out on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) uses a process called indexation to adjust the benefit and credit payments to keep up with inflation and the cost of living. As a result, CCB payments rose by two per cent in July.
If your family already receives this benefit, read on to find out how much you can expect. If you haven’t received it before, here’s how to check if you are eligible.
What is the CCB?
The CCB is a non-taxable benefit, and families who receive payments don’t need to report it on their tax returns. The payments help families manage the cost of raising children under 18.
Are you eligible?
To be eligible, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- You live with a child under 18
- You’re responsible for the care and upbringing of the child
- You’re a resident of Canada
- You’re not applying for a foster child who already receives the Children’s Special Allowance (CSA)

The CRA calculates your payments each year when you file your tax return. Payments depend on how many children you have in your care, their ages, and your adjusted family net income.
“As family net income levels increase, the benefit amount is reduced,” the CRA website states.
If your family’s 2025 income was less than $38,237, you could get the maximum benefit for each eligible child. Your benefits are reduced if your family’s income was more than $38,237 up to $82,847, or over $82,847.
Families with children under age six can get up to $8,157 per year, or $679.75 per month. Families with children ages 6 to 17 can get up to $6,883 per year, or $573.58 per month.
After Tuesday’s payments, the remaining payments for the year will be paid on Nov. 20 and Dec. 11.

Additional benefits
Children who qualify for the disability tax credit could also receive the Child Disability Benefit (CDB). Payments are made to families who care for a child with severe or prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions. To qualify, you must be eligible for the CCB, and your child must be eligible for the disability tax credit.
Families could get up to $3,480 or $290 per month for each child eligible for the disability tax credit.
