The Chancellor of Dominion University, Ibadan, Oyo State, Taiwo Adelakun, has said the church’s investment in education is aimed at complementing government efforts and producing a new generation of Nigerian leaders with sound academic knowledge, strong moral values and the fear of God.
Adelakun stated this on Tuesday while addressing journalists at the university ahead of activities marking its fourth convocation ceremony.
He said faith-based institutions had a responsibility to contribute to national development by equipping young people with the knowledge and values needed to address societal challenges.
Adelakun said: “The church’s investment in education is aimed at supporting government efforts and to raise a new generation of leaders equipped with sound academic knowledge, moral values and the fear of God.
“We are investing in education because we want to raise children and academics who have the fear of God and can stand firmly on their values.”
The cleric described the university’s investment in education as part of the church’s contribution to human capacity development and the preparation of young people for responsible leadership.
On security, Adelakun said the combined efforts of the Oyo, Ogun and Lagos state governments had helped improve safety along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor.
He added that the university worked with security agencies and had put measures in place to monitor activities around the institution, including police patrols.
Adelakun assured parents that security within and around the university had improved, noting that measures implemented over the past three years had strengthened the institution’s security architecture.
He urged parents to consider the university for their children, describing its environment as secure and conducive to academic excellence.
