The Ngas Development Association (NDA), Kaduna State Branch, has mobilised its members to welcome the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, ahead of the party’s planned 2027 presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna.
The association said more than 2,000 Ngas sons and daughters living in Kaduna were expected to turn out in solidarity to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Yilwatda and other dignitaries attending the event scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026. Blueprint reports
In a statement issued on Thursday, the chairman of the association’s Kaduna State Branch, Nentawe Gomiyar, described Yilwatda’s emergence as APC national chairman as a source of pride to the Ngas people and an opportunity to celebrate one of their own at the national political level.
Gomiyar expressed appreciation to Tinubu for the confidence reposed in Yilwatda, who previously served as a minister before his elevation to lead the ruling party.
“The entire Ngas nation is deeply appreciative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recognising the capacity and integrity of our son, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda,” he said.
“His elevation to APC National Chairman is a source of immense pride not only to the Ngas people but to the entire region.”
The association said its planned turnout reflected its appreciation of Yilwatda’s political rise and the longstanding relationship between the Ngas community and Kaduna State.
Ngas community highlights historic ties with Kaduna
Gomiyar said the Ngas people had maintained strong social, professional and cultural connections with Kaduna for more than a century, with generations of families living and working in the state.
He noted that Kaduna had provided opportunities for Ngas sons and daughters to build careers across various sectors, contributing to the state’s social and economic development.
Among the prominent personalities cited by the association was former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, whose home is in Wusasa, Zaria. The association also mentioned media personality Medina Dauda, who was born in Kaduna city, as part of the community’s longstanding connection with the state.
According to Gomiyar, the presence and contributions of Ngas indigenes across Kaduna demonstrate the depth of the relationship between the community and its host state.
He said the planned reception for Yilwatda and other visiting leaders would provide an opportunity for members of the community to express their solidarity while celebrating their cultural identity and political representation.
Association commends Tinubu, Uba Sani
The NDA also commended Tinubu for appointing Yilwatda to lead the APC, describing the decision as recognition of his capacity and leadership qualities.
The association said the appointment had brought pride to the Ngas community and reinforced its sense of belonging within the wider political landscape.
It also praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for what it described as his developmental efforts and inclusive approach to governance.
Gomiyar specifically commended the governor’s choice of Jerry Adams as his running mate, describing the decision as a significant step towards political inclusion in Kaduna State.
The association said inclusive leadership and representation were important to strengthening relationships among communities and ensuring that different groups felt represented in the state’s political process.
It further applauded Deputy Governor Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe for her role as chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) responsible for preparations for the campaign event.
According to the association, the LOC’s reported completion of preparations at the campaign venue four days before the event demonstrated Kaduna State’s readiness to host the gathering.
The association said the level of preparation would help facilitate the reception of national leaders, governors, party officials and other participants expected to attend.
Ngas community welcomes Tinubu, Shettima and governors
Gomiyar, on behalf of the association, extended a welcome to Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima, alongside the governor of Plateau State, other state governors, members of the Presidential Campaign Council and supporters of the APC.
The association said it was prepared to participate in receiving the visiting dignitaries and to demonstrate the community’s solidarity with Yilwatda.
The planned mobilisation of more than 2,000 Ngas residents is expected to form part of the wider reception activities surrounding the gathering, although the association did not provide details of the proposed route, assembly points or other logistics for its members.
The event is being presented by the association as an opportunity to celebrate Yilwatda’s leadership position and acknowledge the historical ties between the Ngas people and Kaduna State.
For the community, the reception also offers a platform to reaffirm its place within Kaduna’s diverse social and political landscape while welcoming national leaders and other visitors to the state.
