Morocco announced Monday a four-party majority government comprising the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), the Istiqlal Party, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) and the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS).
The four parties will propose ministerial candidates to establish a cohesive and strong government capable of implementing the government program, which is to be prepared as soon as possible, according to a government-majority statement.
Following her appointment by His Majesty King Mohammed VI as Head of Government tasked with forming the new government, in accordance with Article 47 of the Constitution, Fatima Zahra El Mansouri, national coordinator of PAM’s collective leadership had launched broad political consultations with several parties represented in Parliament, the press release reads.
The consultations addressed the various challenges facing Morocco, with the aim of forming a strong, cohesive political majority capable of responding effectively to citizens’ expectations regarding decent living conditions, the strengthening of rights and liberties, social justice, territorial equity and economic prosperity.
Following two rounds of responsible political consultations led by the Government-designate, the decision to form the majority took into account the Kingdom’s supreme interests, the national and international context, and the popular will expressed in the legislative elections held on September 23, says the same source.
These elections led, for the first time, to the appointment of a woman as Head of Government, marking an unprecedented historic milestone in Morocco’s democratic process with strong symbolic significance.
The decision also followed recognition of the strong sense of national responsibility demonstrated by the political parties participating in the consultations, their deep political awareness of the challenges and stakes of this pivotal moment, and consideration of the specific demands of the current political and democratic phase, as well as a careful review of previous government experiences.
The resulting political majority is intended to produce a strong political government composed of parties with close ideological and political orientations, united by a shared commitment to a reform agenda, the statement reads.
This government majority is expected to support His Majesty the King’s ambition to build a rising Morocco that advances at a uniform pace, through consolidating the foundations of democratic governance, social justice and territorial equity, while strengthening the productive capacities of the national economy, the statement concludes
