Seeking a route back to winning ways after a stunning 4-3 home loss to Club Brugge in midweek Champions League action, Inter head to Stadio Renato Dall’Ara to face Bologna on Saturday. Despite another disappointing result in Europe, the reigning Serie A holders are leading the way in the domestic championship after six rounds.
Except for a dramatic 2-2 draw against Roma on the stroke of the international break, Cristian Chivu’s charges have won all five remaining league fixtures this season, including a 3-0 rout of Parma last weekend. However, there’s no room for complacency, as they sit level on points with early surprise package Lazio ahead of Saturday’s kickoff.
In stark contrast, Bologna have endured a rough start to the season, picking up just two points from the opening five matchdays (D2, L3). It sent a signal to the club that it was time for new boss Domenico Tedesco to go, with Raffaele Palladino taking his place in the dugout just before the international break. The change paid off quickly as the Rossoblu eked out a 2-1 win at Lecce on the Italian’s road debut last time out.
Buoyed by last weekend’s triumph, Bologna fans are looking forward to Inter’s visit, knowing the Nerazzurri have only won one of the last five Serie A meetings between the sides (D2, L2). Without further ado, let’s see how this clash could unfold.
Full-Time Result
Bologna might not be at their best in the infancy of the 2026/27 season, yet they’ve established themselves as a tough proposition at Dall’Ara. A 1-1 draw against Torino on Palladino’s touchline debut means they’ve shared the spoils in four of their last five home league outings (L1), suggesting they’re unlikely to go down without a fight, even against a superior opponent like Inter.
Adding to this sentiment, Bologna have emerged victorious from three of their last five home encounters against the Nerazzurri (D1, L1). Although the odds suggest otherwise, another surprising outcome could be on the cards, especially given Inter’s travel sickness, with the reigning Scudetto holders winning only one of their last four away games in all competitions (D1, L2).
However, there’s little doubt that Inter will go above and beyond to atone for another Champions League upset. Chivu’s men have lost four consecutive matches at Europe’s top table for the first time in the club’s history and will take this trip eager to restore a feel-good factor. Still, writing Bologna out of this one would be a mistake.
Over/Under Market
With Inter scoring at least two goals in five of their last six away league games, it’s reasonable to expect the visitors to pack a punch in Emilia-Romagna. Whether Bologna can hold up their end of the bargain and get on the scoresheet remains questionable, knowing that only four of their last 12 home league matches have seen both teams score.
Despite the home side’s underwhelming start to the season, we expect this showdown to entertain neutrals.
