WE needed the sharpest scalpel to pick through the hundreds of emails and comments we have received about Marbella surgeon Dr Aslani, aka ‘the Buttman’.
While initially appearing like a narco drug war slaying, it soon became apparent his violent death was more likely to have been ordered by a patient.
Indeed, it was within hours of reporting on the execution that we started receiving emails of a very sinister thread.
The first tentative voices of angry clients soon swelled into a cacophony of broken and traumatised women from all around the world. Around 50 so far.
Each of them alleging they were either manhandled by Dr Aslani or felt cheated by his after care.
It presented a classic journalistic dilemma.
While a well-known surgeon had only just died and his family was grieving, we felt a duty to give a voice to his patients – all women – and investigate the allegations.
What we have uncovered is truly shocking. Very dark indeed.
For while publicly Dr Aslani was the very pinnacle of respectability, a talented plastic surgeon behind over tens of thousands of operations, in truth, far too many appear to have gone wrong.
From tales of dodgy medical certificates to forcing patients to sign gag orders and from restrictions on practicing in the UK to worrying post-op infections, these stories are very much in the public interest.
And they may just be the tip of an iceberg that implicates medical regulators and the plastic surgery industry as a whole.
We take no pleasure in exposing a man who is unable to defend himself, nor the hurt it must cause his friends and family.
But it is both our job and our duty to do so.
