The 15 Best Deals at the REI Outlet for October

We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again: if you’re on the hunt for cheap gear, REI’s clearance section is tough to beat. First off, there are thousands of deals ripe for the plucking. And not only are you able to score bargain-bin pricing on all of those sweet, sweet pieces of gear—we’re talking up to 50 percent off—but REI’s famous Satisfaction Guarantee applies to discounted items. If you’re an REI Co-op member, that protects a sales purchase for 365 days. That’s virtually unheard of in this racket!

Now, as much as we love REI’s sale section, it’s easy to get lost in the clearance chaos. But worry not, gear reader! (Get it, instead of dear reader… Nevermind.) To help you save both money and time, our discerning gear team handpicked 15 standout deals from REI’s outlet shelves. Take a peek at our top picks from the REI outlet below, which includes everything from backpacking packs and backcountry ski shells to bluetooth earbuds and running watches.

REI Outlet Deals on Ski and Snowboard Gear

Up to 50% Off REI Co-op Powderbound Insulated Jacket

REI’s Co-op Powderbound Insulated Jacket, available in both Men’s and Women’s styles, is one of our top recommendations for skiers and snowboarders who want a warm jacket that doesn’t break the bank—even at full retail. The value comes from REI’s proprietary waterproof and breathable membrane, which handles precip well while keeping costs low. Now 50 percent off, this one gets an easy thumbs-up from our gear team.

Anon M5 Snow Goggles with MFI Face Mask for $189 (Was $320)

We have one main gripe with Anon’s M5 goggles: they’re pretty damn expensive. On the other hand, you get what you pay for. Anon’s Perceive contrast-enhancing lenses deliver stellar optics. The magnetic lens system is best-in-class, making it easy to swap lenses on the chairlift, even with mitts on. The style, helmet compatibility, and the included face mask are all ticks in the pro column, too. Only one extra-loud, blue-and-pink colorway is on sale for 40 percent off right now, but inventory is low, so don’t sleep on this deal. Admittedly, this is not our favorite colorway, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers.

Patagonia Upstride Jacket – Women’s for $157 (Was $349)

If you love to tour and hate to get fleeced, look no further. The Patagonia Upstride is a highly breathable, streamlined soft shell for backcountry skiing, one we’ve tested extensively from the Sierra to the Alaska Range. We love the fabric’s stretchiness, which, combined with its noteworthy breathability, makes the Upstride comfortable on uphill slogs. This isn’t the most waterproof shell in Patagonia’s lineup, so it won’t be the sole shell in your arsenal. But at 55 percent off, it’s worth adding this stellar soft shell to your winter wardrobe. All told, we were very stoked—and surprised—to see this sale. Another easy recommendation!

Atomic Bent 110 for $525 (Was $750)

El Niño is coming. Are you ready? Get prepped for the powder days ahead with Atomic’s Bent 110, the buoyant blades of choice for legendary lacerator of lines Chris Benchetler. All four lengths, from 164 to 188, are currently available in REI’s clearance section for 30 percent off. The hype train is officially leaving the station.

686 GLCR Hydra Thermagraph Insulated Jacket – Men’s for $150 (Was $300)

If you value warmth and style equally, put 686’s GLCR Hydra Thermagraph Insulated Jacket on your radar. The silhouette is more suave than Rico, but the real selling point is the body-mapped 140g synthetic insulation, which keeps your core warm on sub-zero days. This generously insulated jacket is going to be too warm for spring conditions, so it’s not going to be your only ski jacket. However, the half-off discount makes this steal worth adding to your kit for those truly bone-chilling days.

Capita Navigator Snowboard for $455 (Was $650)

We’ve got the skiers dialed with their powder planks, but what about our sideways sliding brethren? Capita’s Navigator is a dream on the deepest days, thanks to a forgiving flex, a floaty, broad nose, and tapered, setback, directional vibe. Meanwhile, the parabolic sidecut is nimble in glades and a blast on corduroy. The flex, lightweight construction, and rocker profile make the Navigator exceptionally easy to ride, so if you’re a progressing intermediate investing in your first powder board, this is a safe bet!

REI Outlet Deals on Hiking, Backpacking, and Camping Gear

Up to 30% Off the Big Agnes Divide Insulated Sleeping Pad

If you’re a fair-weather camper who hangs it up as soon as the leaves start to turn, feel free to skip this one. But if the words “shoulder season” make you want to shoulder your pack, check out Big Agnes’ Divide Insulated Sleeping Pad. The structured, 3.5-inch-thick pad is supportive and comfortable, while an R-value of four supplies enough warmth for moderate winter use. One more number that’s worth noting? 30, as in, 30 percent off.

Big Agnes Tiger Wall 3 Platinum Tent for $525 (Was $700)

We’re always hyped to see Big Agnes’ Tiger Wall tents on sale. This three-person iteration features Big Agnes’ Platinum build, which uses gram-shaving materials like a hydrophobic, seven-denier nylon ripstop rainfly and DAC Featherlite poles. Those materials keep the minimum trail weight to just over 2.3 pounds. Divide that weight between two or three campers, and the burden is near negligible.

REI Co-op Magma 30 Sleeping Bag for $244 (Was $349)

It was a bittersweet moment when we saw that REI discontinued the Magma 30 Sleeping Bag. On one hand, we’re sad to see the Magma go, as it’s been one of our top recommendations for value-seeking backpackers for years. On the other hand, discontinuation means deeper discounts! We love the Magma because although these sleeping bags are by no means cheap, they’re reasonably priced when you consider the fact that they’re stuffed with 850-fill-power goose down—a premium insulator that you’ll see in much pricier sleeping bags.

40% Off Gregory Deva 70 Pack (Women’s) and 25% Off Baltoro 75 (Men’s)

The women’s Deva 70 and men’s Baltoro 75 are highlights of Gregory’s backpacking lineup and longtime favorites among our testers. These aren’t the lightest backpacking packs on the market, but they’re loaded with pockets and features to keep you organized on the trail. Plus, amply padded straps and a well-designed suspension system add comfort when hauling a heavy load. Both are discontinued, which explains their current coordinates: smack dab in the midst of REI’s outlet.

Sea to Summit Camp Kitchen Clean-Up Kit for $31 (Was $45)

Don’t let dishes become an afterthought while camping. Sea to Summit’s Camp Kitchen Clean-Up Kit, now on sale at REI, is a game-changer for wilderness gourmands. It has everything you need to freshen up after a feast, including a collapsible sink, a nifty scraper for chiseling away at stubborn pans, and a biodegradable soap that doubles as emergency shampoo and triples as laundry detergent.

UCO Cookit Camp Kitchen for $194 (Was $300)

The old adage “everything but the kitchen sink” came to mind when we first tested UCO’s Cookit Camp Kitchen. This box o’ camp cookin’ essentials includes virtually everything you need to whip up a satisfying meal in the woods, from chef’s knife and flatware to pot and pan. Our testers report that the tubs, which feature easily removable dividers, are a welcome addition to any camp chef’s arsenal. “They’re perfect for keeping your gear organized in transit, and then you can ditch the dividers and use them for doing dishes when it’s time to clean up after dinner,” voiced one Tahoe foodie.

REI Outlet Deals on Gadgets and Tech

Suunto Race for $319 (Was $399)

The Suunto Race isn’t inexpensive, but it’s a relatively budget-friendly option for runners and multisport athletes who want basic features like mapping, activity tracking, and recovery metrics—without shelling out a grand-plus for a smartwatch command center. It’s a little more affordable these days, too, as REI shoppers can score 20 percent off this month.

JBL Tour Pro 3 Bluetooth In-Ear Wireless Noise-Canceling Earbuds for $230 (Was $330)

We want our earbuds to sound good in our ear holes when we are doing box jumps. We need our earbuds to stay in our ear holes when we are doing box jumps. The JBL Tour Pro 3 ticks both of these boxes when we are doing box jumps. Factor in the current 30 percent discount, and we’re ready to unbox another pair of these Outside staff favorites!

Black Diamond Apollo Lantern for $46 (Was $70)

You can never have too many lanterns. That’s just a fact. Scooping up this Black Diamond Apollo is a bright idea, as it’s currently slashed by 34 percent. We love the dimmable LED lantern’s misted diffuser, the folding legs for camp table use, and the USB outlet for recharging your gadgets on the road.
