Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev has announced that the country has rejected a proposal from a European country to accept migrants from Afghanistan and Africa in exchange for providing employment opportunities for Kyrgyz citizens.
Kyrgyz media reported on Tuesday, October 13, that Kulubaev made the remarks during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on international affairs, defense, security and migration.
He added that the terms proposed by the European country for an employment agreement were unacceptable and that the Kyrgyz government had no intention of negotiating the matter.
Kulubaev stressed that the government does not oppose Kyrgyz citizens working abroad. However, due to labor shortages at home, it has scaled back government programs designed to facilitate employment for citizens overseas.
