The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed confidence that the northern region will vote massively for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in next year’s presidential election.
Yilwatda spoke at the commissioning of the Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) Secretariat in Abuja on Saturday, explaining that Tinubu deserves re-election having performed marvellously well in the region.
The ruling party boss equally described President Tinubu as a symbol of religious and tribal unity in the country.
According to him: “Today is the day for us to renew a mandate that was largely supported by the North, and the North again will largely support the return of President Tinubu for a second term.”
“We have so many reasons to support President Tinubu. Our son, our father, our leader, the Vice President, is one of the reasons we should support him. He has built an inclusive environment, bringing all of us together, ensuring that whether you are a Christian, or Muslim, whether you are of different faith, different religion, different tribe, he has brought us together under one shelter, always talking to us and engaging us.
“We have a reason to back and support the two of them, the joint ticket of President Tinubu and Shettima, should be returned for a second term,” he said.
While defending his appeal for the northern region to vote for President Tinubu’s re-election, Yilwatda said: “The second reason is that myself, your son, expect that having me as the party chairman, the North, should back me to return the President for second term.”
“Thirdly, the projects. We have so many projects in the North that we have never seen before. Never before have we had these unprecedented projects all across the three geographical zones in the North.
“The Trans-Saharan Super Highway, starting from Benue to FCT, into Akwanga to Jos. The one from Maiduguri to Biu, already being awarded, Biu to also Gombe, Gombe to Bauchi, over 1,000 kilometres of road only in the North.
“We have the ones that have been completed. The one from Abuja to Kaduna, Kaduna to Kano, over 441 kilometres, and from Kano to Maiduguri, over 500 kilometres. Those two roads alone are over 900 kilometres, more than the 700 kilometres of Lagos Road. Just two roads in the North.
“I can’t mention all of them, but President Tinubu has done wonderfully well. He has covered all the geopolitical zones in the North in terms of road projects. The gas project, we have crossed the AKK project, we’ve crossed River Niger, we’ve hit Abuja, we are heading to Kaduna, will terminate in Kano,” he enumerated.
“Having said that, I want to move that the entire Arewa, because everybody is here, including all the former governors, all serving governors, all the former senators, most of the former speakers, former Senate Presidents, Deputy Senate President, should vote for him.
“Even if we can win our polling units alone, all of us in our hometown alone, because we have over 70 per cent of the vote in the North, just us alone in our polling units, President Tinubu will emerge victorious.
“So, we have no reason not to return Mr President. If Mr President is off the field, not Mr President, but we are failing our people. I, therefore move that President Tinubu should be returned for the second time. If you accept and believe that Mr President should be returned, shout, ‘Yes!'” Yilwatda said.
