Each week, The Record will nominate several high school athletes for the Martin Dentistry Athlete of the Week award.
The rest is up to you, the readers.
The Martin Dentistry Award recognizes top performances from 209-area schools — excluding boys football, which has its own poll. This week’s ballot highlights athletes who made their mark from Oct. 5-10.
Anyone can nominate an athlete of the week from any sport. Readers can email nominations to sports reporter Dylan Ackermann at dackermann@gannett.com. Please include the player's stats and a photo if possible.
The poll at the bottom of this page closes at noon Thursday, Oct. 15. There are no voting restrictions, so vote now and vote often.
Here are the Oct. 5-10 nominees (athletes listed in alphabetical order by last name):
Lily Dundas, flag football, Manteca
The toughest outing of Lily Dundas' season could have lingered. Instead, it sparked quite the response. Coming off a three-interception, no-touchdown performance in another loss to Central Catholic, the Manteca senior quarterback threw for 193 yards, three touchdowns and one interception on 18-of-28 passing in a 25-0 win over Patterson on Oct. 5. She was even sharper two days later, completing 17 of 20 passes for 261 yards, five touchdowns and one interception in a 32-4 win over Sierra, pushing Manteca to 14-4 overall and 7-2 in VOL play.
Jorie Eskes, girls volleyball, Ripon
Twelve straight wins don't happen by accident. Neither does having one player reach double-digit kills in eight consecutive matches. That's what Jorie Eskes has brought to Ripon, the county's top volleyball team. The senior recorded 12 kills, three blocks, five digs and an assist in a 3-0 win over Sonora on Oct. 6 before adding 11 kills, three aces and nine digs in a 3-0 sweep of Hilmar two days later. Eskes has 185 kills and 104 digs, helping Ripon to a 20-4 record and 7-0 mark in TVL play.
Shea Hardcastle, girls volleyball, St. Mary's
Not every standout performance comes with eye-popping numbers. For Shea Hardcastle, consistency has been just as valuable. The St. Mary's senior and Westmont College commit had six kills in a 3-0 win over Merrill West on Oct. 7 and seven in a 2-0 win over Woodcreek two days later. With St. Mary's at 19-5 and among the county's top two teams, Hardcastle leads the Rams with 206 kills and a .254 hitting percentage. In 231 career sets, she has 712 kills and a .241 hitting percentage.
June Kobrin, girls tennis, St. Mary's
At most schools, June Kobrin might be the No. 1 singles player. At St. Mary's, she's No. 2, but her results tell a different story. Since losing her opener to Manteca's No. 2 player, who remains unbeaten at 15-0, the senior has won 10 straight matches without surrendering a set. She beat Lincoln's No. 2 player 6-2, 6-4 on Oct. 6, with the second set marking just the second time an opponent had pushed her that close during the streak. Kobrin holds a 99-18 advantage in games won compared with games lost.
Jaleiyah Ray, flag football, Lathrop
The first league loss was a setback. Jaleiyah Ray's next performance showed exactly why Lathrop is still 9-1 in WAC play. After going 8-of-20 for 84 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions at quarterback in a 19-6 loss to Grace Davis on Oct. 5, the senior took over against Ceres with 56 rushing yards and two touchdowns, 47 receiving yards and another score, and three interceptions in a 38-0 win. With 721 passing yards, 560 rushing yards, 458 receiving yards, 16 interceptions and 32 touchdowns, Ray has made quite the case for WAC MVP.
Ryan Ochs, boys cross country, Tracy
Two hundred thirty runners lined up. Only 14 finished ahead of Ryan Ochs. The Tracy junior clocked a 16:08.4 in the Division 4 varsity 5,000 meters at the 47th Asics Clovis Invitational at Woodward Park on Oct. 10, recording the second-fastest time of his career. His best remains a 15:38.5 at the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational on Sept. 12. Already a first-place finisher at TCAL No. 1 on Sept. 2, Ochs has also set personal bests in the 2 miles, 4,000 meters, 3 miles and 5,000 meters this season.
Alexia Revuelta, girls volleyball, Weston Ranch
Getting her teammates involved is what Alexia Revuelta does best, and five matches across two days gave her plenty of chances. The Weston Ranch junior setter and captain started with 24 assists and 13 digs in a 3-1 win over BHCPA on Oct. 5. Five days later, she had 11 assists in a loss to Argonaut, nine in a loss to Chico, 15 in a win over Kennedy and 12 in a win over Deer Valley, adding 35 digs across the four matches. Revuelta has 356 assists and 247 digs this season.
Brooke Somerville, girls tennis, Lincoln
Who needs the No. 1 singles spot to prove they can win? Certainly not Brooke Somerville. The Lincoln junior has rolled to a 10-0 record at No. 3 without dropping a set, winning 120 games while allowing just 32. She defeated St. Mary's No. 3 player 6-4, 6-2 on Oct. 6 and Kimball's 6-2, 6-2 two days later. Ranked No. 9 among California's No. 3 singles players by MaxPreps, Somerville has also gone unbeaten in two matches at No. 2.
