Luangwa district has begun Pre-Independence Humanism Week activities aimed at promoting community service, social responsibility and the ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ spirit.
Speaking during the cleaning exercise, District Administrative Officer, Musonda Lunkuntwe, says the activities have started with a cleaning exercise at Luangwa District Hospital.
Mr Lunkutwe explains that these activities should be encouraged because they are not only a reminder about the love and unity among forefathers in the fight for freedom, but help sustain the Independence the country enjoys.
He further indicated the exercise is for every well-meaning Zambian, including government departments and other stakeholders in the district.
“As Luangwa we join the rest of the country in celebrating 62 years of freedom from colonial rule, the exercise being conducted by government departments and cooperating partners will extend to the markets, public places, institutions, neighborhood and work places”, he said.
Mr Lunkuntwe encouraged the public to actively participate in all the lined-up activities and the actual Independence Day celebration.
He called on all Zambians to embrace the message in this year’s theme, “Zambia@62: Our Journey, Our Growth, Our Future.”
Luangwa Child Development Agency Data Associate, Gibson Manda, said his organization has taken part in the pre-independence week activities because they help in promoting unity.
Mr Manda recalled that humanism week activities used to be very important and were respected and observed by all people without coercion during the first republic.
He advised the public to value this week as it is a reminder of the freedom Zambians have continued to enjoy for 62 years since independence.
And Jesus’ Anointed Ministries Pastor, Derrick Kashinamilunda, called on the church and believers around the country to take part in this national programme.
Pastor Kashinamilunda explained that Christians must take a leading role in ensuring that peace and tranquility prevails in the country.
“The church and the body of Christ is not supposed to leave such activities to the government alone because national development calls for everyone to play their role”, he advised.
The Humanism Week activities will end on Friday, October 23, 2026 in readiness for the Independence celebration on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
