Nvidia RTX 5090 discontinuation rumours intensify as Micro Center stops carrying multiple models

A few days ago, we reported that Nvidia had allegedly stopped supplying GB202 GPUs for the GeForce RTX 5090. Apparently, all future GB202 allocations would be reserved exclusively for Nvidia’s more lucrative RTX Pro workstation graphics cards. Now, there is some additional evidence suggesting that the RTX 5090 could indeed be nearing the end of its production run.

As spotted by VideoCardz, US retailer Micro Center has changed the availability status of numerous GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards from “Out of Stock” to “Not Carried”. A quick look at the retailer’s website confirms that multiple models from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, PNY and Zotac are affected. Some listings even explicitly state “No Longer Carried”, suggesting the cards may not return to the retailer’s inventory.

However, the RTX 5090 has not disappeared entirely. VideoCardz notes that Micro Center’s Tustin location still has an Asus ROG Astral Edition 20 available as part of a limited-edition bundle. Furthermore, the retailer continues to offer pre-built gaming PCs featuring Nvidia’s flagship Blackwell GPU.

The development comes amid increasingly concerning reports about RTX 5090 availability. ComputerBase recently found that only a handful of retailers still had cards available, with prices starting at a staggering €5,999. To put things into perspective, the GPU launched in January 2025 with an official US MSRP of $1,999.

Separately, Nvidia is reportedly preparing a 24 GB variant of the GeForce RTX 5080, which could effectively become its highest-end consumer GPU in 2027 if the RTX 5090 is discontinued. The alleged graphics card is expected to launch in the first quarter of next year. And then there's the long-rumoured RTX 50 Super series, which, at the time of writing, is slated to arrive...sometime.

For now, Nvidia has neither confirmed nor denied the RTX 5090 discontinuation rumours. Micro Center’s listing changes could be an indication of dwindling retail availability, and not definitive proof that the GPU has reached its end of life. Nevertheless, the situation is looking increasingly bleak for anyone hoping to purchase an RTX 5090 at a reasonable price.
