Alejandro Nones had questions when he first heard the pitch: a scripted series for YouTube, with a creator best known for making people laugh. Then he became involved in a psychological thriller that put him to work on both sides of the camera.
Speaking with this reporter at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, the Venezuelan actor described Caso 1992 as an unexpected creative opportunity. Alongside his performance, Nones directed actors and participated in the editing process, helping shape a production he says left him "extremely happy and proud."
"When they told me it was a series for YouTube, I thought, 'Since when? Why?'" he said in Spanish.
The project comes from Venezuelan artist and content creator Marco Pérez, known professionally as Marko. For Nones, the surprise extended beyond the distribution platform to the kind of story his friend wanted to tell.
"A very serious series," he said, describing the production as the opposite of the comedy audiences associate with Marko. "It's a powerful, solid suspense thriller."
What Is Caso 1992 About?
Caso 1992 follows characters who discover a connection to a childhood tragedy: their families were murdered on the same night in 1992. A mysterious messenger sets them on a search for the person responsible.
The production brings established television actors together with digital creators. Its ensemble includes Luis José Santander, Nanette Orellana, Orlando Urdaneta, and Valeria Menéndez, alongside Nones and Marko. Alex Galán directed the series, which was filmed in Miami and launched free on YouTube and Kick in September.
For Nones, whose credits include Netflix's Who Killed Sara?, the experience offered an opportunity to contribute beyond his own scenes.
"I had the opportunity to direct the actors, too," he revealed. "I had the opportunity to be part of the editing, of the whole process. Marko asked me for help, and I did it from the heart as much as I could."
Nones said Marko called him three days before filming began. After reading the material, he asked to remain involved throughout the production so he could contribute his experience. That became an additional responsibility as director of actors, working with Galán.
He also praised the project's approach to pacing, describing it as attuned to contemporary storytelling rhythms. He said the final episode would arrive November 1.
A New Film Offer From Spain
While discussing his next steps, Nones revealed that another opportunity could take him back to Spain.
"They called me a couple of days ago to do a film in Spain," he said. He immediately qualified the possibility: "Well, I have to read the script. We have to see."
He did not identify the film, its director, or a potential production schedule, and his comments stopped short of confirming that he had accepted the role.
Spain is already part of his professional life. Nones appears in Camino a Arcadia, the series starring William Levy and Paula Echevarría that premiered on SkyShowtime in November 2025. He also joined the cast of David Matamoros' romantic comedy ¿Quién quiere casarse con un astronauta?, released in Spanish theaters in August 2025.
His European work also includes La teoria di Grace, directed by Guia Zapponi, who has publicly discussed collaborating with Nones and fellow Venezuelan actor José Ramón Barreto on the production between Italy and Costa Rica.
Asked about returning to Spain, however, Nones offered an answer that went beyond work.
"Spain is always there," he said. "Part of my heart, my life, my family is there. So Spain will always be there, without a doubt."
