Kathmandu, October 23
The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has issued a new trekking safety advisory for the Langtang and Manaslu regions, confirming that major trekking routes are open while urging visitors to exercise caution in areas damaged by flooding.
According to the advisory issued on Wednesday, the Langtang, Kyanjin and Gosaikunda areas are fully open and safe for trekking. The Manaslu–Larke Pass trail, which was damaged by flooding, has also reopened following partial repairs.
Two routes to Langtang
With a Bailey bridge installed at Betrabati, TAAN has recommended two routes for trekkers travelling to the Langtang region.
Under the first option, trekkers can drive from Kathmandu through Trishuli and Betrabati to Dhunche or Thulosyafru, before continuing on foot through Bamboo, Lama Hotel and Langtang to Kyanjin.
The second option takes trekkers from Kathmandu through Chisapani and Helambu, Thadepati, Ghopte, Gosaikunda and Thulosyafru, before continuing through Bamboo, Lama Hotel and Langtang to Kyanjin.
Caution advised on Manaslu route
The devastating flood in the Budhi Gandaki River on October 11 damaged access roads, trekking trails, bridges and teahouses in the Manaslu region. These have since undergone partial repairs.
Although the Manaslu–Larke Pass trail has reopened, TAAN has advised trekkers to proceed carefully because some infrastructure remains affected.
Trekkers can drive to Machhakhola and begin their journey on foot through Jagat and Nyak Phedi towards Larke Pass. TAAN said a 10-minute alternative trail has also been prepared to bypass a difficult section at Yarubagar that sustained damage.
Chum Valley remains closed
The Chum Valley trekking route remains closed after a cantilever bridge collapsed. Repair work is underway, and TAAN expects the route to reopen in about a week, according to its advisory.
