Nollywood faith-based film, Agbara Nla The Return, has grossed more than N307.2 million at the box office, making it the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2026.
The film’s distributor, Nile Group, announced the milestone in a post on Instagram on Friday, October 16, expressing appreciation to audiences for their support since the production returned to cinemas.
According to the distributor, the film has also become the highest-grossing Nollywood title ever released in October, marking a significant achievement for the faith-based production.
“Thank you, Nigeria! Agbára Nlá: The Return has grossed N307.2M+, the highest-grossing Nollywood title ever for an October release and the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood title of 2026,” the announcement read.
The latest earnings represent a substantial increase from the N170.6 million the film generated within its first four days in cinemas, highlighting its strong performance since its release.
Box office figures released earlier by Nile Group on October 5 showed that the film had recorded the initial milestone shortly after its return to cinemas. The distributor described the achievement as a major moment for the production.
“The revival is here. The power is moving. Agbara Nla: The Return opened with N170.6m+. It can only be God,” the distributor said.
Distributor celebrates packed cinemas
Nile Group also thanked moviegoers for the impressive turnout, saying the film recorded packed cinemas and sold-out shows across its screening locations.
“Thank you, everyone, for the packed cinemas, SOLD-OUT shows and incredible love,” the distributor added.
The distributor had earlier described the film’s opening performance as the biggest non-December Nollywood opening weekend, the biggest October opening weekend and the biggest opening weekend for a faith-based film.
The film’s performance adds to the commercial visibility of faith-based productions in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with Agbara Nla: The Return attracting audiences since its return to the big screen.
Remake revives 1993 Christian classic
Agbara Nla: The Return is a remake of the 1993 Christian film created by veteran filmmaker Mike Bamiloye.
The new version was directed by his sons, Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua “Jay Mikee” Mike-Bamiloye, bringing the classic production back to the big screen for a new generation of viewers.
The original film became associated with Christian filmmaking in Nigeria, particularly among audiences within the faith-based entertainment community. Its return in a new production has renewed interest in the story more than three decades after its first release.
The remake returned to cinemas on October 1, 2026, and its earnings have continued to rise since its opening weekend.
With more than N307.2 million in box office revenue, the film has secured a place among the leading Nollywood releases of the year, while its October performance has set a new record for the category, according to its distributor.
