THE status of Malaysians still uncontactable after deadly floods in Nepal and safeguards against subsidised fuel leakages are among the public concerns set to come under scrutiny in the Dewan Rakyat today, alongside the accuracy of official air pollution readings amid recurring haze.
Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) will ask the Foreign Minister for the latest information on Malaysians who remain uncontactable following flash floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district on Aug 26.
Manndzri Nasib (BN-Tenggara) will seek details from the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister on measures to ensure Malaysia’s official Air Pollutant Index (API) readings are accurate, transparent and trusted, as well as plans to make air quality information easier to understand and more responsive to changing haze conditions.
The impact of diesel subsidy policies on rural livelihoods will also feature, with Datuk Siti Aminah Aching (BN-Beaufort) asking the Finance Minister how many pickup and four-wheel-drive owners in Sabah have received an additional 100 litres of diesel under the BUDI Diesel initiative.
She will also seek details of assistance for owners who use their vehicles for small businesses, farming and travel in rural areas.
Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN-Pekan) will ask the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister for the number of cases, value of leakages, seizures and arrests recorded under Ops Tiris Bersepadu, particularly in border areas.
He will also seek explanations for recurring smuggling and the measures being taken to tighten border controls, prevent leakages and dismantle syndicate networks.
The economic impact of unpaid caregiving will be raised by Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah), who will ask how many women aged 25 to 59 are outside the labour force because of childcare, elderly care or other family responsibilities.
She will also seek an assessment of the economic value of unpaid care work and an update on plans for a national care economy ecosystem.
Separately, Young Syefura Othman (PH-Bentong) will question the Digital Minister on GovTech Malaysia’s achievements, its cooperation with other ministries to improve public and business services, and plans to strengthen the digital government ecosystem.
The Dewan Rakyat will continue debating the Supply Bill 2027 at the policy stage, with the debate scheduled to conclude on Oct 22 before ministerial winding-up speeches begin on Oct 26. - October 22, 2026
