EA Sports FC 27 has a Ted Lasso crossover that includes the Lady Greyhounds

To coincide with Ted Lasso’s fourth season, EA Sports FC 27 is bringing back crossover content, but this time for the show’s new women’s team.

Back in 2022, EA announced it was including content based on the hit TV show Ted Lasso in FIFA 23; a perfect fit considering the show is all about a Premier League football coach.

At the time, this was assumed to just be a one-off, especially since the show was scheduled to wrap up with its third and final season the following year.

With Ted Lasso having now returned with a fourth season, that began in August, EA is capitalising on that by bringing the show’s characters into EA Sports FC 27, including its new women’s football team.

EA bills this as the first time Ted Lasso has featured in the EA Sports FC games, which is only technically true. The series is ultimately FIFA under a different name, after EA opted not to pay the licensing fees.

Unlike last time, which let you play as the fictional AFC Richmond team, EA Sports FC 27 instead features AFC Richmond Women, aka the Lady Greyhounds.

This is to line up with the current season of the show, where they’re the main story focus. The team will be available not just in regular play but in both the career mode and Ultimate Team modes.

EA is also promising ‘themed rewards’ across both modes, although it hasn’t provided any exact examples.

Presumably, all the actresses’ likenesses are being used for the team members. Among them is Abbie Hern, who portrays the team’s striker Gemma Jay in the show.

‘It was incredibly special the first time I got to play with AFC Richmond in the game, and it’s amazing to see myself as part of the Lady Greyhounds squad in EA Sports FC 27,’ reads a statement from Hern.

‘Our fans have embraced Richmond as more than just a fictional club. Giving people a way to play and connect with the women’s team on the pitch in FC 27 feels like a wonderful next chapter, and I hope players enjoy making us part of their football stories.’

Lasso himself, as portrayed by Jason Sudekis, is also back as a playable manager in the game’s career mode and Nelson Road, AFC Richmond’s home stadium, will be an option as a stadium.

As for when all this Ted Lasso content is being added to the game, EA only says it’s coming with the new season. Season two of EA Sports FC 27 starts next week, on October 22, so you should expect the Ted Lasso content to arrive around the same time.
