Jaylen Brown called out his former teammate Jayson Tatum’s recollection of learning the Celtics traded Brown to Philadelphia.
In a video shared to his YouTube on Thursday, Oct. 22, Tatum, 28, shared his recount of the moment he learned the Boston Celtics had traded his longtime teammate to the Philadelphia 76ers in July. Tatum said he was in Las Vegas at the time, and recalled ESPN insider Shams Charania breaking the news to him.
“I just got done playing pickup the first day. Shams walks over, he hands me the towel, he’s like ‘Yo, put this over your face, don’t react, they just traded him,” Tatum said.

The Celtics star shared that he asked Charania where the Celtics sent Brown, and when he learned it was Philadelphia — where Brown would team up with LeBron James — he recalled thinking they “traded him down the street.”
Tatum said he was “just as much caught off guard as the rest of the world” after his teammate was traded, but it appears that Brown doesn’t entirely believe Tatum’s recount.
In the comments of a clip of Tatum’s interview, Brown, 29, reacted with an emoji of a baseball cap, which in internet lingo means you’re calling “cap” on someone and accusing them of lying.
Brown and Tatum shared the court in Boston for nine seasons. The Celtics finalized their trade with the Sixers on July 6, sending Brown to Philadelphia in exchange for Paul George, a 2028 first-round pick, a 2031 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2030 second-round pick.
The duo led the Celtics to the 2024 NBA championship, and Brown was named the Finals MVP.
