Klio Mazonaki, mother of singer Giorgos Mazonakis, said she cries all the time and asks only for justice, in a television interview aired on Friday night.
She spoke to reporter Katerina Rista on the main evening news of Greek channel Star on Friday 16 October, almost 40 days after the singer died on 9 September.
Klio Mazonaki said she deliberately avoids news about the case because she cannot cope with what is being said in public. Star posted part of the interview on YouTube.
“I don’t hear anything, I don’t know why I cry all the time,” she said. “Justice. What can I tell you now? Pain, justice, justice, justice. Nothing. Thank you very much for your interest.”
Klio Mazonaki asks for justice
In another version of her remarks, Klio Mazonaki said: “My dear, I don’t hear anything of what is being said. I don’t want to, because I cry all the time.” She then repeated that her only request was justice, adding “nothing else”.
Judicial authorities are still investigating the causes of the singer’s death. His mother said she cannot bear to follow developments, and that all she asks is for the truth to come out.
The couple first spoke after their son’s death in late September, when they thanked fans for their support and said they had no strength for words.
Since then, a former employee of the Athens practice where Mazonakis died has described the panic among staff in a separate television interview. In addition, his rented home in Voula remains under police seal.
Memorial service on Sunday
Family and friends will hold the singer’s 40-day memorial service on Sunday 18 October at the Church of Agia Triada, at the Third Cemetery of Nikaia, in Piraeus.
Large numbers of friends, fellow artists and fans are expected to attend to pay tribute to the singer, Star reported.
