Florida State Seminoles star running back Ousmane Kromah saw his breakout sophomore campaign sidelined in a flash, but the elite playmaker is already bringing championship-level grit and a locked-in attitude to his recovery and rehab.
Kromah suffered a severe left foot and ankle injury during Florida State’s heart-stopping 43-35 double-overtime loss against the rival Miami Hurricanes on Saturday night. The injury occurred in the second quarter as the explosive tailback was driving toward the goal line. After taking the hit, Kromah tried to power off the field under his own steam before collapsing and bringing out the medical staff.
The seriousness of the injury was clear immediately as trainers stabilized his leg and carted him off the turf.
Florida State announced Sunday that Kromah underwent surgery in Miami before heading back to Tallahassee. The team expects him to make a full recovery, though he’ll be on the bench for the rest of the 2026 season.
Despite taking a tough blow, Kromah is staying mentally tough and keeping a positive mindset. In a social media clip filmed right before surgery, the standout sophomore gave fans a preview of the high-energy mindset he’s bringing to his comeback journey.
“I’m wonderful. I’m ready to get this over with,” Kromah stated, matter-of-factly.
It was a quick but clutch quote from a athlete facing a long rehab grind. Instead of dwelling on the sidelined season, Kromah shifted into game mode—ready to knock out surgery and attack his recovery process head-on.
Head coach Mike Norvell highlighted the back’s relentless drive and competitive motor.
“I just love the kid,” Norvell said in his postgame media conference, feeling for his injured player and discussing his hustle and heart. "He was here last night. He was in good spirits for his teammates. But everybody's hurting for him."
A Promising Season Interrupted
Kromah was having an absolute monster year as Florida State’s primary rusher and top offensive weapon. Through seven games, he put up 609 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns on 114 touches, averaging a dynamic 5.3 yards per carry, while adding 97 receiving yards on 11 catches.
The sophomore had already blown past his 408 rushing yards from his rookie year, proving his game had leveled up and solidifying his role as a cornerstone star for the Seminoles’ offense.
While losing his elite playmaking is a tough stat line for FSU, the green light for a 100% recovery gives fans plenty to cheer about.
Kromah has a long highlight reel ahead of him. The immediate strategy is all about physical therapy, conditioning, and rebuilding his explosive speed and agility to dominate again.
While there's no set game plan for his return, his high-octane drive points to a major comeback story. If his rehab stays on track, Seminole Nation can get ready to see him back on the field making big plays with the same vigor as before.
