Banana Ball is coming back to Detroit.
The souped-up variation of baseball that incorporates dancing, trick plays and wild costumes is returning to Fifth Thid Park in 2027 with two games slated for June 25 and 26, entertainment company 313 Presents announced on Thursday, Oct. 15.
Banana Ball made its Motor City debut last month to much fanfare as crowds packed the stadium to watch two matchups between teams known as the Party Animals and the Firefighters.
Next summer, the Party Animals will return to Detroit to play the Indianapolis Clowns.
Tickets are distributed via an online lottery system, in which fans enter for a chance to be randomly selected to purchase tickets. Potential attendees can sign up at bananaball.com/tickets. The lottery closes at 11:59 p.m. Oct. 31.
Banana Ball keeps the basics of baseball but adds some wild rule twists. Games are limited to two hours, four-ball walks can turn into races around the bases and batters can’t step out of the box.
Teams compete to earn points, not runs, by winning individual innings. Fans can catch a foul ball for an out, and ties are settled with a one-on-one showdown.
The Savannah Bananas created Banana Ball in 2018 as a faster, more entertainment-focused alternative to traditional baseball, built around a set of unconventional rules. Since then, the sport has expanded from a single team into a touring organization with multiple teams, culminating in the six-team Banana Ball Championship League, which began play this year.
