Winnipeg Police Service property crime investigators are searching for a suspect potentially tied to several concerning incidents in East Kildonan in recent days.
Doug Vance, a homeowner on Dunrobin Avenue who lives with his wife and two sons, woke early Tuesday and noticed the lights were on in his truck, which was parked at the rear of his home.
He was soon face-to-face with a man armed with a large knife.

Winnipeg police are on the lookout for a suspect in a reported knife incident in East Kildonan.
“Something, I figured, was up, so I went to go find my keys and lock the (truck) door… the light didn’t go out, so that meant the door was ajar,” said the 47-year-old.
“I went outside, figuring, OK, maybe I left my doors unlocked and somebody’s gone through the truck again.”
As he approached the truck, he saw the armed man rifling through his truck.
“As I’m telling him to get out, he’s pushing the door, I’m opening the door, and he came out with his knife, just stabbing, trying to stab me as much as he could,” said Vance, who backed off and jumped over his fence, dropping his phone in the process, and picked up a propane tank to defend himself as the armed man threatened him.
Vance threatened the man back, who took off running and soon disappeared, and followed to try to retrieve his phone. He later tracked it to the roof of a neighbour’s garage.
He said he found the encounter frustrating in a neighbourhood that he thought was largely safe.
“The neighbourhood’s just been phenomenal lately, until the last week or two, when I started hearing stories about this guy around,” he said, adding many young families live in the area.
“It’s scary to think people like that, with no regard for life whatsoever, are out there.”
He urged others who find themselves in similar situations not to approach suspects.
“Let police do their work, that’s why we pay them,” he said.
Investigators are on the lookout for the suspect in that incident and others in the neighbourhood that may be connected, WPS spokesman Const. Claude Chancy said.
