The high school swimming and diving postseason as here, just as high school teams are allowed to compete again following a hiatus due to Hurricane Isaias.
This year, the 3A and 4A classifications will have their postseason meets first followed by classes 1A-2A. Pensacola area teams compete in classes 3A, 2A and 1A, with all roads leading to the state championships at the Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training Center in Ocala.
The District 1-3A diving championship took place Oct. 19 at Booker T. Washington, while the District 1-3A swimming championship will take place Oct. 22 at Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach. The Region 1-3A championship will take place in Hunter Pool in Gainesville on Oct. 27, while 3A state championship will be Nov. 6.
The District 1-1A championship will be Oct. 26 at Frank Brown Park, while the District 1-2A championship will be the only local postseason meet and will be held at UWF on Oct. 30. The West Florida girls will be looking for their fifth straight district title.
Both the Region 1-1A and Region 1-2A championships will be in Jacksonville, with 1A schools competing at the Bolles School's Cassidy Aquatics Center on Nov. 3 and 2A athletes competing at the Cecil Field Aquatic Center on Nov. 5. The 1A state championship will be Nov. 13, with the 2A state championship on Nov. 14.
The top two finishers in each event at the district championship will advance to the regional championship, with the next 18 best performances at district meets qualifying for regionals. The same qualifying process applies for advancing from the regional championship to the state championship. Divers will have to post a minimum score of 280 to advance.
With the most important time of the year here, the PNJ is letting readers pick who they think should be the frontrunner for the PNJ Boys and Girls swimmer/diver of the year after letting them do the same in the preseason.
Voters can vote until Oct. 29 at 12 p.m. CT. All times are from publicly available information or were sent in by coaches. If there's any other athletes we should keep an eye on, please reach out to JFitzgerald@gannett.com.
Note: This doesn't have any influence on PNJ all-area postseason awards.
