Enugu Rangers defeated Algeria’s MC Alger 2–0 in the first leg of their CAF Champions League qualifying tie in Abeokuta. Goals from Kenneth Igboke and James Emo gave the Nigerian champions an advantage ahead of the return leg.
However, reports of post-match violence overshadowed the victory, with more than 400 MC Alger supporters allegedly damaging stadium seats and an assistant coach reportedly attacked. Former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba was also reportedly attacked by members of the Algerian delegation. Rangers are scheduled to face MC Alger again on October 23.
