Used syringes found at MGR sports stadium restrooms; samples sent for testing

Acting on a complaint from sports officials, the Madurai city police recovered used syringes from the M.G.R. Sports Stadium in Race Course on Saturday.

According to police, the search—prompted by authorities—was conducted in the stadium’s male restrooms, where they discovered syringes appeared to contain liquid residue. While preliminary testing has not identified the substance, samples have been sent to a laboratory for a formal analysis.

Stadium officials noted that the facilities are accessible to the public and that the grounds were currently filled with athletes from across the district visiting the city for athletic competitions.

“The origin of the syringes and the nature of the substance will be definitively established once the police investigation concludes,” officials stated.
