KUALA LUMPUR: Faris Azri is a familiar face to millions of social media users, but the popular content creator has shown he has talents beyond the digital world by striking gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games.
Known online as Faris Azri Choii, the shuttler boasts 2.3 million TikTok followers and added another major achievement to his sporting career today when he paired up with two-time Paralympic champion Cheah Liek Hou to win the men's doubles SU5 gold medal.
The Malaysian pair sealed the title with a commanding 21-8, 21-13 victory over South Korea's Jeon Sun Woo-Kim Ge Yeon in their final group match in Ichinomiya City.
The victory ended Malaysia's wait for a badminton gold at the Asian Para Games since the 2014 edition in Incheon.
Faris has built a strong digital presence through his social media platforms and Faris Azri TV channel, where he shares lifestyle and sporting content.
He is also the founder of CHOII, a streetwear and apparel brand, and runs Choii Motorsport, extending his reach into Malaysia's automotive and drifting communities.
The Asian Para Games gold marked another milestone for Faris and Liek Hou, who won the men's doubles SU5 title at the Para Badminton World Championships in Manama, Bahrain, in February, underlining their status among the leading pairs in a classification for players with upper-limb impairments.
Faris also featured in the men's singles quarter-finals but bowed out after losing 21-12, 21-10 to Liek Hou.
With a world title and Asian Para Games gold to his name in men's doubles SU5, Faris continues to make his mark as both a para-badminton
player and a content creator.
