Seven games into the season, the Dallas Stars are making an addition to the roster.
According to a report from Elliotte Friedman, Dallas is going to sign David Perron, a longtime winger who will begin his 20th NHL season when he joins the Stars. Frank Seravalli reported the deal is for a pro-rated $850,000.
Perron, a 38-year-old wing, should slot into Dallas' bottom six forwards as the Stars search for an offensive spark. Through seven games, Dallas' 2.14 goals per game rank 30th in the league. Enter Perron, who has 332 goals in his 19-year career.
Perron spent the 2025-26 season split between Ottawa and Detroit and he logged 13 goals and 15 assists in 65 combined games with the two clubs. He averaged 13:34 of ice time in his 65 outings last season.
He spent the bulk of his previous 19 seasons with the Blues, where he appeared in 673 games and totaled 465 points across 11 seasons in St. Louis. Perron was named to an All-Star team in 2020 and was a member of St. Louis' 2019 Stanley Cup championship team. In that playoff run with the Blues, Perron logged 16 points in St. Louis' 26 playoff games.
One of Dallas' bigger needs coming into the season was replacing its scoring depth after the loss of Mavrik Bourque. Bourque was coming off a 20-goal season, but Dallas did not have the cap space to retain him in restricted free agency and ultimately traded him to Nashville.
The loss of Bourque, combined with Matt Duchene's long-term injury, has created a void for the Stars they hope will be partly filled by Perron.
