The Warriors haven't looked like much of a title contender in recent years, finishing with fewer than 50 wins in every season since their 2021-22 championship triumph. Last year was the worst of the bunch for the aging Golden State squad; the Warriors limped to a 37-45 record, their worst mark since the 2019-20 season.
While Golden State's best years look comfortably behind it, there's hope among members of the Warriors' fanbase that the team could push closer to postseason relevancy in 2026-27. That optimism was certain to have taken a bump after news broke that Stephen Curry suffered a lower-body injury on Sunday afternoon.
Here's what we know so far about Curry's ailment.

Stephen Curry injury update
Curry and the Warriors returned to the floor for an open practice on Sunday afternoon. Prancing onto the Chase Center court — decked out in Valkyries decal — Curry was at his spell-binding best, until he wasn't. While attempting to shake loose of Gary Payton II and De'Anthony Melton, the 38-year-old planted his right foot awkwardly.

He immediately grimaced as he made his way down the floor, limping towards the bench before disappearing into the tunnel. Golden State head coach Steve Kerr soon joined him, per reporter Nick Friedell.
Initial reports suggested Curry might have injured his right knee. That joint proved especially finicky for the future Hall-of-Famer last year, with a bout of "runner's knee" sidelining him for two months between February and April.
While speaking with reporters after the practice session concluded, Kerr revealed that Curry actually hurt his ankle on the play.
Steve Kerr said it’s the right ankle, not the knee, for Stephen Curry. Said he talked to him in locker room and “he’s fine.” https://t.co/O5uyl6ckOk

"He's fine," Kerr said.
Golden State starts its regular season with a road tilt against the Lakers on Oct. 21. Curry's status will be worth monitoring in the days leading up to that contest.
