Werder Bremen's Niclas Füllkrug has had enough of the debate whether he should be invited back into the German national team after a strong start into the season with six Bundesliga goals in as many matches.
"If I have said 44 times that I don't want to talk about it then it would be cool not to talk about it any more," Füllkrug told streaming portal DAZN after Bremen's 2-2 draw with Paderborn on Saturday.
Füllkrug returned to Bremen in summer on loan from West Ham United and is finding the net again after a difficult time at the English club and during a first loan spell at AC Milan from January until June.
The 33-year-old has scored in the last five Bundesliga matches and his brace on Saturday helped Bremen against Paderborn in what was a third season game in which they fought back from two goals down.
Coach Daniel Thioune said that Füllkrug has been "outstanding for weeks" and his goals have led to a debate whether the striker should return into the national team. Füllkrug has 24 caps with 14 goals, his last match being in June 2025.
He was not part of the World Cup squad and was also not invited for the first games under new coach Jürgen Klopp.
Füllkrug said a week ago that Klopp had other priorities and seems to be relying more on young players, that he wasn't expecting a call-up and that he didn't really want to talk about it. German team sporting director Rudi Völler would meanwhile not fully rule out a Füllkrug return.
Germany's next games are in November in Serbia and against the Netherlands.
