One of 2026’s most talked-about movies is officially teaming up with Fortnite. Curry Barker’s hit psychological horror film, Obsession, recently brought its main character into the smash-hit battle royale. Epic Games officially debuted Nikki from Obsession as a playable character skin for the annual Fortnite Fortnitemares Halloween event.

However, this new offering quickly faced mixed reactions from the gaming community. Fortnite regularly collaborates with major franchises like Marvel and Star Wars. Furthermore, Fortnitemares consistently introduces famous horror icons like Freddy Krueger and Leatherface. Yet, the specific choice of Nikki, combined with a weird design change, has definitely raised a few eyebrows.
The Bizarre Design Choice
Initially, Epic Games confirmed the Obsession crossover. At that time, many fans believed the developers would only add the One Wish Willow Sprite. Therefore, players were genuinely surprised when Nikki debuted as an official character skin. The in-game character model strongly resembles actress Inde Navarrette, who plays Nikki in the movie. However, fans immediately noticed a glaring issue. Instead of actual red blood on her face and neck, the developers used an oily black color.
Consequently, horror fans and Fortnite players voiced massive confusion and disappointment. Many questioned why Epic Games didn’t simply omit the blood entirely instead of adding a dark mystery substance. Historically, developers water down bloody appearances in Fortnitemares to maintain a family-friendly experience. Nevertheless, gamers now actively debate the actual point of including this black liquid substitute.
The Debate Over Inclusion of Nikki from Obsession in Fortnite
In addition to the cosmetic complaints, players also heavily criticized Nikki’s overall inclusion in the game. Fans of the film highlighted its extremely heavy themes. Specifically, the movie explores a severe lack of bodily autonomy. The story famously features a split between Possessed Nikki causing harm and Real Nikki suffering as a victim of the One Wish Willow. Consequently, some fans feel she simply does not belong in a battle royale.
Conversely, counterarguments defend the crossover. Obsession started as a smaller indie project that completely over-performed box office expectations. Supporters argue that including Nikki in a massive game like Fortnite easily introduces more players to her tragic story. As a result, the community remains divided on her overall presence. However, almost every player actively dislikes the fake black blood splatter on her character model.
Will Epic Games Fix the Skin?
Overall, fans have received Fortnitemares 2026 incredibly well. This success largely stems from other amazing collaborations, including Five Nights at Freddy’s, Hazbin Hotel, and Hollow Knight. Currently, nobody knows if Epic Games will actually make any cosmetic changes to alleviate their audience’s critiques.
Fortunately, the company has a track record of fixing IP characters. Previously, developers adjusted a Peacemaker emote dance following similar community complaints. Therefore, fans should definitely keep a close eye out for any potential Fortnite updates before the Fortnitemares 2026 event officially wraps up.
