The peak demand of power on the transmission system in Telangana has crossed the 20,000 megawatt mark as it is recorded as 20,018 MW on October 16 and 20,003 MW on October 15. The consumption of energy, however, is yet to break the all-time high of 344 million units recorded in March this year.
Consumption of energy has been recorded as 338.49 MU on October 15 and 337.8 MU on October 16. The highest ever of 344.4 MU was recorded on March 13 this year with four days that month recording more than 341 MU energy. It is yet to touch 340 MU mark later.
The demand for energy from the farm sector is also very high as the farmers ignored the government’s appeal and suggestion to go for a crop holiday this Rabi season. On average, more than one-third of the total energy consumption is by the farm sector. The demand from the sector is expected to see a down trend after the harvesting of Kharif crops.
The government has deputed five IAS officers to the Yadadri Thermal Power Station to camp there from October 15 to 30 to ensure that all four units commissioned so far generate power at their optimal capacity. According to the Genco authorities, the Plant Load Factor (PLF) of YTPS is only about 44% so far this month both due to shortage of coal and operational (technical) issues.
At the same time the PLF of 4×270 MW Bhadradri Thermal Power Project is about 61.5% and that of the 1,100 MW Kakatiya Thermal Power Project is about 84% this month. On the other hand the 2×600 MW Singareni Thermal Power Project is operating at over 90% PLF.
