The Michigan Wolverines are coming off a 21-18 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions, and their next opponent, the Indiana Hoosiers, are coming off a 19-15 loss to Ohio State.
Michigan is now 4-2 on the season, while Indiana is 6-1. Despite the game being played at Michigan Stadium, the Wolverines will be an underdog next Saturday versus the Hoosiers.
Per FanDuel Sportsbook, Michigan is a 7.5-point underdog against Indiana, with the over/under set at 7.5 points.
While Michigan is an underdog, could this game actually be closer than expected? There’s a new variable that is part of the equation — Michigan quarterback Tommy Carr. Carr entered the game in the second half against Penn State for the benched Bryce Underwood and played well. Carr was 5-of-7 for 47 yards and also had 36 rushing yards. While head coach Kyle Whittingham hasn’t named the starter for next week, all indications point to Carr being named QB1.
Indiana, who currently rank No. 30 in total offense and No. 10 in total defense, beat Michigan 20-15 in 2024, which was Curt Cignetti’s first year on the job. Indiana would go on to win the national championship last season and could be in the mix yet again this year. However, if Michigan can pull an upset over Indiana, perhaps pundits will start talking about Michigan being a potential playoff team. Stranger things have happened.
