The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has explained why the Parklands Road- Wangari Maathai Road Junction in Westlands have stalled months after its commencement.
Responding to queries from members of the public, KURA attributed the delays in construction to service relocation by other agencies, including the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
However, the authority announced that the issue has now been resolved and the contractor is speeding up the work in the area.
According to KURA, the project is intended to improve the junction through non-motorised transport (NMT), drainage and intelligent transport systems (ITS) meant to benefit motorists and passengers.

"Please note, KURA is improving this junction with NMT, drainage & ITS works for pedestrians & motorists. Works stalled over service relocation by other agencies; now resolved & the contractor is expediting," KURA said.
Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president and Westlands MP aspirant Nelson Havi specifically raised concerns over roadworks that involved excavation near an existing stormwater drainage system and pedestrian walkway, with Havi claiming KURA did the works to give way for an exit for a fast food restaurant.
The former LSK president criticised the works, saying the site had been left incomplete for months and appeared abandoned.
Photos seen by this publication show piles of soil, rubble and open trenches left beside the road as motorists and pedestrians continue using the area.
The unfinished works have raised concerns over pedestrian safety, drainage and the condition of the busy junction.
The authority, however, dismissed the claims, maintaining that the works in the area are solely to improve the facilities to benefit motorists and pedestrians.
At the same time, KURA is intensifying works to improve other traffic bottlenecks in Nairobi, with efforts to ease traffic.
After the construction of the Ngong Road - Naivasha Road Flyover, the authority is fast-tracking the construction of the Kenyatta Avenue viaduct, with the project set to be opened by May 2027.
