SHAH ALAM: A brawl at Taman Medan Jaya in Petaling Jaya, which was captured in a video that has gone viral, stemmed from dissatisfaction with the housing management’s decision to cut off electricity supply, rather than racial tensions.
Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said an investigation found that the electricity supply to business premises suspected of operating illegally had been cut off.
“There are no racial issues involved, just dissatisfaction (regarding the electricity cut),” he said at a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters here today.
Shazeli said that a man's request on Oct 9 to have the supply reconnected was ignored. The man then brought along a few friends to confront the management and residents of the area.
He said five men were arrested and remanded for a day before being released on bail, and that the investigation paper is still being finalised.
The viral video showed a few individuals, with one holding a parang, during the quarrel with residents at Taman Medan Jaya.
On a separate matter, Shazeli said police have yet to receive new information that can identify the body of a man found in the wheel-well of an airplane at KLIA Terminal 2 on Aug 27.
On Sept 15, police sought help in locating the next of kin of the victim after obtaining a picture of the deceased.
The man was found by engineering crew who noticed a foul odour coming from the wheel-well after the plane arrived from Tokyo, Japan.
He was believed to have been dead for more than 72 hours before his body was discovered.
