A Lewisville High School junior quarterback is eligible to return after the UIL overturned a district ruling that had cost the team three victories. The appeal also cleared the way for those wins to be restored.
Laykon Brassfield won his appeal Thursday, Oct. 22, and was immediately cleared to play varsity football, according to Texas HS Football. The UIL State Executive Committee unanimously granted the appeal after determining that Brassfield had established residence in the school's attendance zone.
Brassfield is expected to return Friday against Flower Mound.
The District 5-6A Executive Committee ruled Brassfield ineligible Sept. 25 in a 7-0 vote, citing concerns about whether his family had established a bona fide residence within Lewisville's attendance zone.

The ruling forced Lewisville to forfeit non-district victories over Highland Park, Trophy Club Byron Nelson and Denton Ryan. In a separate 5-2 vote, the committee determined Brassfield had not moved for athletic purposes.
During Thursday's appeal in Austin, Brassfield's family presented updated documentation showing it had consolidated its residence in a roughly 1,200-square-foot apartment in Lewisville. His younger siblings had also been withdrawn from Argyle ISD, addressing concerns raised during the original hearing.
The committee's unanimous decision also clears the way for Lewisville's three forfeited victories to be restored.
Before he was sidelined, Brassfield completed 49 of 69 passes for 734 yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception in three games. He also rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns.
Lewisville remained undefeated in district play during Brassfield's absence. His reinstatement gives the team its starting quarterback back for the final stretch of the regular season.
