KWAZULU-NATAL — The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has launched its national Molo Makhelwane campaign as part of intensified preparations for the 4 November 2026 Local Government Elections, releasing a formal statement. In the statement, the party outlined several key resolutions adopted at a recent party meeting.
The campaign, which runs until midnight on 3 November 2026, calls on all MK Party structures, councillor candidates and volunteers to engage directly with households, churches and communities across cities, townships, farms and villages nationwide.
The party urged members to be visible "on every street and at every corner," describing the drive as a demonstration of humility and grassroots commitment.
Party's Siyathatha rally cancelled
The MK Party confirmed that the Siyathatha rally, previously scheduled for 18 October 2026, has been cancelled. The party said the decision was taken to redirect resources towards ward-level campaign activities. In place of the event, the party's 2026 LGE People's Mandate, its election manifesto, will be distributed electronically to all members and structures on 15 October 2026.
The party also acknowledged reported discrepancies in the final councillor candidate list published by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). The party said an urgent, independent investigation would be launched, with findings submitted to the Presidency for consideration.
Party leadership said it would engage directly with affected ward candidates who were legitimately nominated through community meetings. The MK Party committed to prioritising candidates whose names were omitted or incorrectly excluded, subject to applicable party processes.
Zuma remains hospitalised
Despite being released during the period that Zuma was hospitalised, the statement did not refer to the condition of the MK Party leader and former State President.
Zuma has been receiving treatment at Netcare St Anne's Hospital in Pietermaritzburg since 6 October 2026. As of 14 October, the Jacob G. Zuma Foundation stated he remained in hospital, dismissing earlier reports that he had been discharged.
