The upcoming Minecraft winter drop will add a fresh set of building options with Packed Ice Bricks. This new block set gives you a way to introduce cool blue tones into your builds, whether you’re constructing icy castles, frozen villages, or underground bases inside the Ice Caves. So follow the steps shown in this guide to learn how to get Packed Ice Bricks in Minecraft and their variants.
Items Required to Make Packed Ice Bricks in Minecraft
Before learning how to get Packed Ice Bricks in Minecraft, you will need to collect Packed Ice. Packed Ice can be obtained from various icy biomes in Minecraft such as Icebergs, Frozen Oceans, Ice Spikes, and more. Adding to that, you’ll require the following items, too:
| Item | Quantity | How to Get |
|---|---|---|
| Packed Ice | 4x | Mine naturally generated packed ice using a Silk Touch tool |
| Crafting Table | 1x | Craft using 4x wooden planks |
| Stonecutter | 1x | Craft using 1x Iron Ingot and 3x Stone blocks on a Crafting Table grid |
There are two ways to make Packed Ice Bricks: either using a Crafting Table in Minecraft or a Stonecutter. While both methods are straightforward, using a Stonecutter is more versatile, as you can get other block variants more efficiently. So, here’s how you can get Packed Ice Bricks in Minecraft:
Method 1: Using a Crafting Table
- Mine at least 4x Packed Ice blocks using a Minecraft Silk Touch-enchanted pickaxe.
- Open the Crafting Table UI and place 4 Packed Ice blocks in a 2×2 square.
- Take the 4x Packed Ice Bricks from the output slot and store them in your inventory.
Method 2: Using a Stonecutter
- First, craft a Stonecutter block and place it in your world.
- Interact with the block and put a single block of Packed Ice in your left cell.
- Choose the Packed Ice Brick block from the options and select the block on the right to store it in your inventory.
How to Make Packed Ice Brick Block Variants in Minecraft
The Packed Ice Bricks in Minecraft are more than a single decorative block. The set includes multiple variants that allow you to add detail and depth to your structures. You can craft them using the Minecraft Stonecutter or using the appropriate crafting recipes. Here are all the variants in the block set:
- Packed Ice Brick Slabs: Place 3x Packed Ice Bricks along the same line on a Crafting Table grid to get the slabs.
- Packed Ice Brick Stairs: Place 3x Packed Ice Bricks along the left column, 2x on the rest of the cells of the bottom row, and 1x at the center to get stairs.
- Packed Ice Brick Walls: Place 6x Packed Ice Bricks in two adjacent rows horizontally to get yourself some chilly walls.
- Chiseled Packed Ice: Chiseled Packed Ice blocks can be obtained by placing two Packed Ice Bricks, one on top of the other, in the 3×3 crafting grid.
While the above are the various ways of using a Crafting Table to get the Packed Ice Brick block variants, you can simply place the block on a Stonecutter to get the same result and even choose what you want.
Tip: A Stonecutter allows you to make all of the above variants in small quantities even if you have a single Packed Ice Brick block. Moreover, you can also get every Packed Ice Brick variant by using a Packed Ice block in the Stonecutter.
Other Uses of Packed Ice Bricks in Minecraft
Although the primary purpose of the Packed Ice blocks is decoration, they serve additional properties worth knowing about. Here’s what you can do with the Packed Ice Bricks.
- Sulfur Cube interaction: Packed Ice Bricks and Chiseled Packed Ice can be fed to a Sulfur Cube in Minecraft to make them adopt the fast-sliding archetype.
- Building and decoration: The icy blue brick texture makes it extremely suitable for massive ice castles, frozen temples, and other interesting house ideas in Minecraft.
Some of the most useful features of these bricks are that, unlike regular ice blocks, Packed Ice Bricks do not melt under light, no water is released when broken, and they have a default friction value, making it easier for you to walk.
