RANTAU PANJANG: The General Operations Force has recorded 11 cases of concertina wire being cut along the Malaysia-Thailand border in Kelantan between March 27 and Oct 12 this year.
Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director (GOF) Datuk Mohamad Suzrin Mohamad Rodhi said enforcement action had been taken by the GOF and the respective district police headquarters in connection with the incidents.
He said the incidents were believed to involve deliberate acts aimed at creating entry and exit routes through the border fence to facilitate smuggling activities.
"I believe the parties responsible have been identified based on the information gathered," he told reporters this during a visit to the border here today.
Accompanying him was GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Ahmad Radzi Hussain.
Suzrin said GOF would continue to update field intelligence in collaboration with the National Security Council and the relevant police contingents on border intrusions involving the cutting of concertina wire.
He said those on duty would continue repairing cut sections of the wire to restore security control as quickly as possible.
It was learnt that the illegal jetties associated with the cut concertina wire were identified as Abe Li Posmen, Salleh, Kak Mah, Pok Mat, Adam, Abe Yie, Poksu Roni, Syed Agil, Lan Bundle, Cik Ma, Epek, Zin Merah and Gergaji.
It was also learnt that the estimated length of damaged concertina wire at each location is between two and five metres.
