India will hope for a somewhat easier start when they host Zimbabwe in Raipur on Sunday in the second T20I of the series.
Although Smriti Mandhana's side eventually secured a four-wicket victory in the opener, their chase of a 114-run target saw the captain dismissed for nine in a brutal opening four overs that left them 19/4.
Deepti Sharma (49 off 37) and debutant Niki Prasad (39 not out) steadied the ship to secure the win after Zimbabwe's 114/4 through Sharne Mayers' 43 and Kelis Ndhlovu's 42.
The teams reconvene in Raipur on Sunday with India's top order under scrutiny.
India Women vs. Zimbabwe Women prediction: Who will win?
It may have been an inauspicious start, but India's successful chase demonstrated the depth of their batting lineup. Should the top order show a little more mettle this time, Zimbabwe could be in for a difficult day.
