Austrian Airlines will discontinue its long-running service between Vienna and Zagreb in January 2027, bringing an end to more than four decades of operations between the two capitals.
The airline’s final flight on the route is scheduled for 10 January 2027, with no return planned for the 2027 summer season.
An Austrian Airlines spokesperson confirmed the decision to aviation news portal EX-YU Aviation News, stating that flights between Vienna and Zagreb would not continue during the summer period.
The move marks the end of the carrier’s presence on the route, which it first served in the mid-1980s. Operations were interrupted during the Croatian War of Independence and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Austrian Airlines has gradually reduced its capacity between the two cities in recent years.
The airline previously operated up to 12 weekly flights on the route, but services were cut to one daily flight during the 2026 summer season. This represented a 37.5% reduction in weekly frequencies and a 27% fall in available seat capacity compared with the previous year.
Further reductions had begun in late 2024, when the carrier cut frequencies and introduced smaller turboprop aircraft on some services.
Croatia Airlines will continue operating between Zagreb and Vienna during the upcoming winter season, which begins on 25 October, with two daily flights planned, in line with the previous winter schedule.
Austrian Airlines will maintain daily services until its route ends in January. Many of its flights are scheduled to be operated using aircraft provided through a wet-lease arrangement with Air Dolomiti.
