Son Ye-bin, a player on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour, has given back to younger students at the high school that nurtured her career.
The Mediheal golf team, operated by L&P Cosmetic, said on the 13th that it had joined with its sponsored player Son Ye-bin, 24, to donate a 10 million won ($7,000) scholarship fund to Shinsung High School to develop junior golfers. The donation was arranged to repay the school that supported Son until she established herself on the professional circuit, and to back younger players chasing their own goals.
While attending Shinsung High School, Son served on the national reserve squad and finished first in the women's division of the national team selection event. She showed rapid improvement as an amateur and has retained a strong attachment to her school. "I feel deeply proud to be able to thank my school and my teachers, who guided me onto the right path and made me who I am today," she said. "I am grateful to the Mediheal golf team for arranging this meaningful occasion, and I will repay it with good results on the course."
The Mediheal golf team said it intends to go beyond sponsoring players and build a cycle that also develops future talent. "A player's growth rests largely on the teaching of their school and their coaches," a team official said. "We will continue to support our players while also sharing resources to develop younger golfers."
The Mediheal golf team has run the donation project on a continuing basis, delivering scholarships to the alma maters of newly signed players, as a way of thanking the schools that have supported their development and helping to cultivate future golf talent.
