President Trump was given a “Man of the Century” award by a Republican congressional candidate on Thursday during a campaign rally in Iowa.
The award was handed to Trump personally at the rally by Joe Mitchell, who is running to represent Iowa’s second congressional district in the house, during the Sioux City event.
Referring to Trump, who was standing next to him on stage, Mitchell said: “They’ve never given you the Nobel Peace Prize by the way which is a disgrace. So what I came up with Mr President is a new award, it’s called the man of the century award ok. It’s the man of the century award.
“And I’m going to hold this up for the artificial media to see. CNN zoom in right here CNN. Because this man has done more for humanity and for America than any other president ever. Thank you Mr. President for being here, thank you for supporting Iowa and thank you for being the greatest president we’ve ever had.”
Mitchell then handed Trump a gold framed certificate titled “MAN OF THE CENTURY” with “President Donald J. Trump” written below.
Mitchell later shared a clip of the moment to his Facebook page, saying it was "an honor" to present Trump with his own award.
The interaction sparked some mockery on social media with journalist Aaron Rupar sharing a clip of Mitchell’s remarks on X, adding: “Joe Mitchell gives Trump ‘the man of the century’ award (that he just made up).”
Newsweek contacted the White House press office and Joe Mitchell's congressional campaign for comment on Friday via email outside of regular office hours
