The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) has announced that stricter security measures are in place following messages of a reported threat of violence on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The AdZU Grade School Department said in a statement that it "understands the fear and anxiety caused by circulating messages about a reported threat of violence on October 19.
"Coming just two months after the tragedy of August 18, we recognize why these messages are especially distressing to our families."
The school said the reports are taken seriously and that verified information showed that "no substantiated threat has been identified."
AdZU continues to assess the information it has received and is in the process of coordinating with the Philippine National Police for further verification and appropriate action.
The Kreutz Campus has implemented stricter security measures, including stricter entry screening, metal detectors, X-ray baggage inspection, and controlled access.
"As an additional precaution, we will further reinforce perimeter security and increase the number of roving security personnel," the school said.
"Should new information warrant additional precautions or changes in school arrangements, we will communicate these promptly through official University channels," it added.
Two students died, including the shooter, while another was injured on August 18, 2026, following a shooting incident in the school in Zamboanga City.
The University in the same statement said that, "We recognize that rebuilding trust takes time and requires consistent action. We remain committed to protecting our students and caring for their well-being with vigilance, transparency, and responsibility. Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued partnership." — BAP, GMA News
