A total of 140 parish and sub-county councillors, sub-county chiefs and town clerks from Buyanja Constituency in Kibaale District are undergoing a three-day induction training organised by the Ministry of Local Government to strengthen their leadership and management skills.
The training commenced on Monday at Bwamiramira Sub-county headquarters in Kibaale Town Council and is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday.
Robert Sendegeya, the team leader of facilitators from the Ministry of Local Government, said the training is part of a nationwide programme aimed at equipping lower local government leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to improve service delivery.
The training covers key areas, including decentralisation policies, government wealth creation programmes, legislation, mindset change and effective leadership.
Sendegeya encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions and apply the knowledge and skills acquired to fulfil their responsibilities effectively and respond to the needs of their communities.
Meanwhile, the participating councillors and chairpersons welcomed the initiative, saying it would strengthen their leadership capacity, enhance their ability to lobby for development programmes and equip them to address community needs more effectively.
They expressed optimism that the training would contribute to improved service delivery in local governments.
